Several Kosovo Albanians on trial as pimps
In an interview with the Voice of Russia, Kosovo human rights activist Jelena Krsmanovic said that cases of human trafficking are frequent in Kosovo – mainly, cases of selling women as sex slaves.
“Women from Kosovo are often sold to countries of Western Europe and other regions,” Mrs. Krsmanovic says, “but Kosovo’s authorities are turning a blind eye on that.”
Recently, an EU mission in Kosovo initiated lawsuits against 10 residents of Kosovo who are suspected of pimping.
The complainants in this case were 22 women from Moldova, who officially worked as waitresses in restaurants, but also had to render sex services to the clients.
“Besides the restaurants’ owners themselves, several charged persons in this case are officials who knew about the real activities of these restaurant owners but helped them to officially register their businesses,” Mrs. Krsmanovic says.
