The “Ghost Village” Plackovica located in the hills above Southern Serbian city of Vranje, where during the “1999 bombing” NATO dropped over 2,000 bombs and DU (Depleted Uranium) projectiles, almost didn’t see any visitor for the last two decades…

…Around the ruined houses consumed by the elements and nature there is no sign of life for kilometers. After the NATO bombing of Plackovica, the radioactivity in this village was measured at 236,000 becquerels per kilo. We are talking here about “ionizing radiation” higher 8,000 times about safe level. That’s what is actually behind the 12 times higher cancer rate than average in this region, the local residents believe.

Even this “ghost village” and entire area has been avoided by everybody, after walking for 3 hours through abounded and rocky forest and mountain trails the reporter of “Serbian Telegraph” had reached the peak hosting the old TV transmitter which was allegedly the main target (even it was clearly the civilian object) of the relentless NATO bombing. In fact the NATO bombs didn’t damage much the transmitter itself, but they surely devastated the entire region.

“The day before the bombing ended, `the strange people with CB radio` who occupied our hose for days just disappeared. Just hours after they left, we heard the sound of NATO bombers, then we felt the bombing. The huge cloud of dust covered us all, so we couldn’t see each other. Fortunately we stayed inside the houses, because the bomb’s fragments were hitting the walls. It was terrible experience.” – The Plackovica’ resident Stojanka Krstic remembers the horror…
