DUAL CITIZENSHIP IN UKRAINE

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk recently got a second passport, obtaining Canadian citizenship.

This has been reported by “PolitNavigator” citing a source in the Verkhovna Rada.

As the newspaper noted  Yatsenyuk’s obtaining Canadian citizenship is a guarantee of the Western partners for the life of the prime minister and his family, in case “something goes wrong”, and the situation in Ukraine turns to a radical direction.

It is noted that Canada was among the first which recognized the  Yatsenyuk government after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

According to the laws of Ukrainе dual citizenship is prohibited, however, in the current Ukrainian political phenomenon this is not unique.

Thus, the Ukrainian media wrote about the Israeli citizenship of the current head of the faction “Bloc Poroshenko” Yuriy Lutsenko, the current German citizenship of Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko. His triple citizenship has been openly declared by the governor of the Dnepropetrovsk region oligarch Igor Kolomoisky. The media is also presenting evidence for American citizenship of the SBU head Valentin Nalyvaychenko.

March 6 edition of Bloomberg confirmed that the Minister of Finance, US citizen Natalia Yaresko also has dual citizenship. The process of non-US citizens  can take several years.

“According to the local law, it is forbidden to have two passports. She has several years to abandon the US. It is hard to imagine that Yaresko will remain at the job for so long” – the newspaper writes.
